What to pack for a Kenya safari
Pack light, pack neutral, and bring layers. Here’s a simple checklist.
Clothes
- Neutral colours: khaki, beige, olive and brown
- Layers: early mornings and evenings can be cold, middays hot
- A warm fleece or light jacket, and a light rain jacket
- Long sleeves and trousers for evenings (mosquitoes)
- A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and comfortable closed shoes
- Swimwear for lodge pools
Gear
- Binoculars, one pair per person if possible
- Camera with a zoom lens, spare batteries and memory cards
- Phone and chargers (our Land Cruisers have charging points)
- Sunscreen, insect repellent and any personal medication
- A small daypack for the vehicle
Luggage and documents
- Soft bags are easier to fit in vehicles, and required on light aircraft (usually about 15 kg)
- Passport valid for at least 6 months
- Kenya eTA (electronic travel authorisation), applied for online before you travel
- Travel insurance details
- Yellow fever certificate if you are arriving from a country that requires it
