KENYA DESTINATIONS
Amboseli Safari
Big elephant herds walking across open plains, with snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro rising behind them. Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most photogenic parks.
Why go
Amboseli National Park is known for its large, relaxed elephant herds. Swamps fed by springs from Kilimanjaro keep it green in the dry season and attract buffalo, hippos and hundreds of bird species.
- Large elephant herds, including big-tusked bulls
- Views of Mount Kilimanjaro, clearest in the early morning
- Lions, hyenas, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest
- Flamingos, pelicans and waterbirds in the swamps
When to go
June to October and January to February are the driest months, with the clearest Kilimanjaro views. Game viewing is good all year.
Getting there and how long to stay
About 4 to 5 hours by road from Nairobi. Two nights is ideal, and Amboseli combines well with the Masai Mara or Tsavo.
